I LOVE vintage and antique furniture so you can imagine my excitement when I found two chairs (with clawfeet!!) at an auction. The chairs were outdated and desperately in need of a makeover so in other words they were perfect.
The chairs were painted with one coat white chalk paint and two coats of turquoise chalk paint. This layering of the paint helped the lovely details on the chairs stand out when they were lightly distressed. Look at the fabulous clawfeet NOW! You could hardly even see them before the makeover.
Next, I reupholstered the chair cushions with an Ikat design fabric in beautiful blue hues to cover up the hideous (and did I mention outdated?) original fabric.
The two chairs needed a companion so I found a table with a similar style and painted it with white and turquoise chalk paint to match the chairs. But the table was just too plain compared to the chairs so I added a stenciled design to the top and I love how it turned out! Lastly, all three pieces were covered with clear wax to seal in their beauty and allowed to cure for 30 days. Now, they are ready for a new home. Pricing and additional details available here.
If you happen to know what style chairs these are (I believe either Queen Anne or Chippendale), please leave me a comment.
